THE LEGEND OF 1900

He was born on a ship.

On the first day of the 20th century, an abandoned baby is discovered aboard the ocean liner Virginian. Raised entirely at sea and given the rather spectacular name Danny Boodmann T.D. Lemon 1900, the boy grows into a piano virtuoso whose music becomes legendary among the passengers crossing between Europe and America.

But while thousands of people pass through his floating world, 1900 never sets foot on land.

Directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, the filmmaker behind Cinema Paradiso, and starring Tim Roth, The Legend of 1900 unfolds somewhere between fable, music, memory and old-fashioned storytelling. There's friendship, immigration, jazz, an unforgettable piano duel with Jelly Roll Morton, and a man trying to understand whether the enormous world beyond the ship is something he actually wants.

With an original score by Ennio Morricone, this is big, peculiar, beautiful cinema—the sort of movie that asks you to settle in and let it tell you a story.
